Many people are asking me how's the BWTV project. And many other people are asking for updates and bug fixes of the SCExtension. Sometimes I was nice, sometimes I was not that nice when I was answering the same questions over and over again. I feel really sorry for this. And now back on the topic, the Rise.
The Rise
There was an idea. This idea belongs to cute programmer. His nickname is Lasgo and that idea was development for StarCraft. In not so close cooperation with JCA he planned to make tools that will help gamers in their hobby in any way. Many project was born, many of them you know and luckily many more you dont. And one of them was called BWTV. However Lasgo was not interested in SCBW anymore so I asked him for sources. After some alcoholic circumstances he gave me all his sources.
Then i had to learn how Lasgo's ideas work, how he did to make it work. And it worked, on 1.09 - 1.10. Actually its working on 1.14. But Lasgo's methods and code was like the pain in the ass. I had to code it again on my own. It was faster to make it on my own rather than learning the already written code. And fortunately, in the same time Superpenguin came with his PenguinPlug. It could save replays with text. Version 0.0.3, console only, revolution!
That was the gold age. We had fun with Superpenguin doing any stuff for SCBW, we discovered many bugs in the game and reported them. Some of them was just funny, some of them was really major (fixed in few days) and some of them still are still waiting to be fixed. You can imagine, Psi Storm casted by Zerg Queen (even without upgrading it). As i said, the golden age.
Afterall Illintar came and took PenguinPlug source. Many of you think that Superpenguin was the only one who was coding PenguinPlug but in fact he wasn't. There was close cooperation. BWAC (Anticheat), LARS (Autosave) and more was Lasgo and mine work. Anyways Ilintar made the PP client work for WGT. Then I realized that working together is the way. So BWProgrammers was born and BWLauncher merged with PenguinPlug. Its a pity that JCA was not interested in development anymore, however as far as I remember we talked about BWP and he did like it very much. The idea was to put everything together. So BWTV was about to be included in BWTV. In that time we had working server on WGT and i did First Person replay just like a bonus and "show" of what is about to come. But there is a little "but".
The Fall
I knew that there are 2 options. First one is to make it on our own (with Ilintar), and update hundreds of lines on every patch release. Thats easy task, but it takes terrible amount of time. And the second is to kindly ask Blizzard employees to change the StarCraft code. If it would happen the mainteance would be fun. So we chose the second option. In that time the WGT announced the partnership with Blizzard, so everything seemed to fit togeter perfectly. And 1.14 was about to come.
The launcher was working properly and most of its bugs were fixed. It worked for PGT as an antihack that is hard to fool. If there would be Blizzard API for us, we would have environment to continue the work. Yes we could make API on our own but if you don't have source that's pretty too much work even for three coders (+Rocketeer). So we had to wait for the API..
And puff, there was a turn over. We had to remove many antihack features from PenguinPlug because they was too suspicious or dangerous for the vicitim's Windows. So we did and prepared the PenguinPlug for new patch before the its release. And 1.14 was published with silent support. Mainly because we still hacked the game, but somehow we passed the Battle.net antihack check. It was actually interesting to read many comments on other forums - that there is some new strange module checked. Unfortunately the silent support means that we couln't update our work since the patch release, because Battle.net check would have to be updated too. But we are still talking about time right after the patch, the time when you expect new stuff to come. And everyting can change the next day. And so we waited, like everybody... so long.
And then it came, three months ago. The statament: "There won't be any launcher for WGT". Quote: "But? I want to hear your but." The question was unanswered. It was not necessary to answer. No launcher means no API. No API means too much work for us. What an achievement after so long time that I kept hope it will happen, it could happen. And it should! On the other hand the WGT ladder if it will ever work again will be very nice place to play games. Admins there are hopeless now, and they are still waiting, like we did. And players, they are slowly leaving the game. And antihack? Hm, do you think that anyone will bother to make a cheat for 10 year old game and play WGT? No fresh blood means dead game. Its irreversible. That's why Im going to close the project BWTV. If anyone wants, I'll share the know-how. We have BWTV working yes, but this project won't be re-released again to the public. It doesn't work like a charm and you need to know computers very well to make it working.
I would like to say sorry to everyone who kept the hope alive. Mainly because few months ago I still had hope that it will happen. Its sad. Its sad even more that with BWTV the SCExtension (PenguinPlug) dies too. And if you think it can still live if we would release the source code, the answer is that there is no reason to let it live. The SCExtension source is really complex and it could be used to hack the game even more deeply in the hands of the bad guys. If you want antihack, make your own. Its faster than reading PenguinPlug.
The 1.15 should came two weeks ago. WGT should work half year ago. The development should continue at 1.17. Do you see any future? Now Im giving up. No weapon handling anymore. Im not going to join the Valhalla. The lost vanquish yes, not like a winner or looser, but like a soldier, .. My spirit will be still walking near in the shadows, willing the return..
Act on your instinct
