After years of fans hoping Joss Whedon's incarnation of the Buffy-verse might make it to the big screen, Warner Bros. has just offically announced they're doing a "reboot" version of Buffy, without any apparent involvement by the original creative team for the movie or TV show, including the man considered the end-all be-all Buffy mastermind, Whedon.

So what do these movie people have to say for themselves?

"There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character's return to the big screen," says Charles Roven, who will be producing the feature film through Warners and Atlas Entertainment. "Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high-school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be."

According to Warner Bros.' release, Roven, Steve Alexander, Doug Davison and Roy Lee will produce the new Buffy feature film,and Whit Anderson will write the script.

Who is Whit Anderson? Apparently a huge Buffy fan who pitched Roven the idea, and the deal was made: Warner Bros. Pictures optioned the rights from directors Fran and Kaz Kuzui, and from Sandollar Productions (Sandy Gallin and Dolly Parton), who did the original movie version (pre-TV's Buffy). Roven and Alexander are behind films such as Dark Knight and Get Smart, plus TV's sadly canceled Rubicon; Davison and Lee worked on How to Train Your Dragon and quite a few horror films.

Kristin, I'm glad you asked for my thoughts on the announcement of Buffy the cinema film. This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, "Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson? This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER." Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, "I'll make a mint! This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!" Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?

I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don't love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I'm also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can't wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I'm making a Batman movie. Because there's a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you.

Naja, der erste Buffy-Film mit Kristy Swanson war auch ziemlicher Schrott, und den hatte Whedon selber zu verantworten. Die Serie war ebenfalls bestens mittelmäßig, also soll er mal ein bisschen vom Hass-Gas gehen. Unabhängig davon braucht man von Buffy natürlich eigentlich so oder so keinen Reboot, aber dass es qualitativ viel schlechter wird als das bisher gesehene ist damit auch noch nicht gesagt.

ich weiss noch wie die Serie in Deutschland startete, ich dachte es wär der Film und war total enttäuscht als ich den Serienpiloten gesehen habe lol

Buffy war schon immer scheisse, ich meine man hat da ne bande von pussyschwuchtelvampieren, die schneller sterben als jeder normale mensch und ein blondes abgemagertes barbiepüppchen ohne muskeln, dass die reihenweise plattmacht. Buffy ist das Twilight der 90ger.

Naja, diese Beschreibung passt doch auf alle Serien, die sich mit dem Thema befassen.

Buffy hat sich wenigstens nicht so ernst genommen ... ich habe selber ab und an mal reingeschaut und mir teilweise aus Langeweile auch "Angel" reingezogen.

Aber klar war es absoluter Schwachsinn, auch für's "Monstergenre" gesehen.

Fand auch beides nicht besonders umwerfend, nicht toll gemacht, alles übertrieben, etc ... Bin aber allgemein kein Serienfreund, irgendwie und habe da wohl auch die Ironie verpasst.

Aber macht wenigstens nicht ganz so dumm wie "Schwiegertochter gesucht" oä.

Punkt ist halt, dass heutzutage so viele Filme gemacht werden, dass man an bekannten Marken festhalten muss um ueberhaupt Aufmerksamkeit zu bekommen. So jedenfalls der Gedanke der Filmindustrie.

Charmed ist unendlich grotten scheiße.
Buffy hingegen hat mindestens trash charm.
