die ganze problematik duerfte ja bekannt sein: trotz 4gb an ram schafft es das 32bit-betriebssystem aufgrund von anderweitig ausgelagertem arbeitsspeicher, sei es nun der auf der grafik-, oder der auf der soundkarte, nur knappe 3,x gb davon zu adressieren.

auch PAE duerfte den meisten ein begriff sein; der adressraum wird von 32bit auf 36bit erhoeht.

das wird auch zumeist als grund dafuer genannt, weshalb man bei mehr als 4gb ram tunlichst ein 64bit-system benutzen sollte.

nun lese ich auf wikipedia aber folgendes:

The x86 processor hardware is augmented with additional address lines used to select the additional memory, so physical address size is increased from 32 bits to 36 bits. This increases maximum physical memory size from 4 GB to 64 GB. The 32-bit size of the virtual address is not changed, so regular application software continues to use instructions with 32-bit addresses and (in a flat memory model) is limited to 4 gigabytes (GB) of virtual address space. The operating system uses page tables to map this 4 GB address space into the 64 GB of RAM, and the map is usually different for each process. In this way the extra memory is useful even though no single regular application can access it all simultaneously.

bedeutet das nicht, dass ich sehrwohl meine >=4gb ausnutzen kann, nur ein einzelnes programm aber nicht mehr als 4gb (=ram + graka ram + sonstiger ram) sehen kann? das koennte mir dann ja aber egal sein, solange ich mehrere programme laufen habe.

oder versteh ich da was falsch?

Meistens liegt es am Mainboard, dass du nur 3,X GB nutzen kannst. Du brauchst ein Board, das "Memory remapping" im BIOS korrekt implementiert.

Nein - es liegt meistens daran, dass Windows XP/Vista in der 32 Bit Version benutzt wird - die limitieren aus Kompatibilitätsgründen den PHYSISCHEN Adressbereich auf 4GB - davon muss noch diverser GraKa usw Speicher abgezogen werden womit dann nur 3.X GB übrigbleiben - da hilft auch kein Mainboard, sondern nur ein 64Bit Windows (oder ein ganz anderes Betriebssystem).

x64 Windows hilft dir nix, wenn das Board kein Memory remapping kann, lies dir deinen Artikel nochmal durch...

Man liest immer wieder Beiträge im Netz, wo es Leute ohne Probleme geschafft haben mit Windows 32bit mit PAE und memory remapping die vollen 4GB zu bekommen. Ob das stimmt oder nicht kann man natürlich nicht 100% sagen...

hatte auch das problem, dass bei nem 32bitsystem und4gb ram diverse hardware nich mehr erkannt wurde. war schon geil irgendwie.

Echt? Hab auch 4GB und hatte noch nie Probleme (außer dass halt nur 3,25GB nutzbar sind ) - im Gegenteil, mein XP läuft extrem stabil und ohne Swapfile...

Das es mit dem falschen Board auch nicht geht ist natürlich klar - mir ging es eher um das "meistens" - man muss natürlich alle vorraussetzungen erfüllen. Und dazu gehört ein 64 Bit Windows (oder eine 32 Bit Windows Server Version) genauso wie ein entsprechendes Board - bei 32 Bit WinXP/Vista mit PAE hat man mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit Treiberprobleme, was Microsoft auch explizit schreibt - ohne PAE läufts natürlich stabil, nutzt aber halt nicht die kompletten 4GB
